Torsten Frank

Born in 1968 in Freital, Saxony, Torsten Frank began playing the violin at the age of five. At the age of 12 he was admitted to the renowned music school of the Dresden University of Music, where he received his training as a violist. At the age of 20 he became a substitute for the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and made a number of CD recordings with the Virtuosi Saxoniae. From 1985 to 1993 Torsten Frank was a member of the Baumann Quartet and studied chamber music with Prof. Jahn in Karlsruhe with this ensemble. The Baumann Quartet successfully took part in masterclasses by Walter Levin and Norbert Brainin and performed throughout Europe. Torsten Frank dedicated the following years to orchestral playing. Stations as a violist included the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich and the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg. From 1997 to 2004 he was principal violist with the Dresden Philharmonic. In 2004 Torsten Frank became a member of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.
